  1. Is there a male equivalent to belly dancing?

  2. it is traditionally and primarily a female dance ... at least the performance aspect of it, though it developed out of raks baladi, which just means country dance, and was for everyone, male and female...

however, there are men who do essentially the same thing as the female performance version... search youtube - "male belly dancing"...

  4. 1. Yes, males belly dance (even in performance) though many countries frown on the males dancing because apparently it fosters homosexuality. But recently Egypt (I think) just rescinded their ban on male dancers.

    2. You should get a hold of a Belly Dance AllStars video. Fantastic! It's a show put together by 5-7 troupes across the country. Various styles and looks and music. Great!

    3. Do you like cabaret or tribal/fusion styles more?

  6. Male bellydancing can be found, even on the front range. There were a couple guys in the SCA with me back in the day who used to bellydance. They were based in Boulder, I think...
